Mrs. Danielle Goetsch, the Pierce High School guidance counselor, will be available on those two days to take drop/add requests. 7th graders will receive their schedules on Wednesday, August 6th during 7th grade orientation at 6:00 pm at the high school. A reminder to all parents that school begins on Monday, August 11 at the Jr.-Sr. High School with a 12:30 pm dismissal.

7th Grade and New Student Orientation at PHS
Pierce Jr.-Sr. High School will hold their annual orientation session for 7th graders and new students on Wednesday, August 6 at 6:00 pm at the high school. All 7th grade students and/or new students and their parents are highly encouraged to attend. The orientation session provides the students with the opportunity to meet their teachers and locate their classrooms and lockers. The new students will receive their class schedules along with instructions for the beginning of the school year. A reminder to all parents that school begins on Monday, August 11 at both the Jr.-Sr. High School and Elementary School. The first day of school will dismiss at 12:30 pm.

Fall Sport and Activity Meetings
A meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, August 6 at 7:15 pm at the high school for all parents of junior-senior high school fall athletes. One of the main purposes of the meeting is to explain Pierce High School’s concussion/head injury protocol, a statewide requirement of the Nebraska School Activities Association. This meeting is also an opportunity for coaches to meet parents and explain the expectations for their child’s sport. If a parent is unable to attend the required meeting, please contact the school at 402-329-6217 or 402-329-4677. The presentation
highlighting the required concussion protocol presentation will be recorded and available for viewing on piercepublic.org, the school’s website, by Thursday afternoon, August 7. A form will be accessible online that a parent can download, print, and sign confirming they’ve watched the presentation. This signed form must be on file at the high school prior to an athlete’s first game/contest.

Laptop Computer Check-Out
Pierce Jr.-Sr. High School 9th -12th grade students will be able to check out their laptop computers for the school year on Thursday, August 7 from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm. Students will sign in to the laptop with school gmail credentials therefore students need to be present to get the laptop. Students are encouraged to contact Mrs. Dostal via school gmail if they have forgotten their school gmail password. Students who are unable to come to the school on these two days will get their laptop computer on the first day of school, Monday, August 11. Parents and families are reminded that insurance covering accidental damage or loss of the computer can be purchased at the high school for $25. To protect the student and his/her family from accidental damage charges, computers will not be checked out to any student until the $25 fee has been paid or the parent/guardian has spoken to Mark Brahmer, the principal, to specifically turn down the insurance option. Starting this school year, 7th and 8th grade students will have individual laptop computers during the school day but will not take their computers home. Instead, the students’ computers will be stored in charging carts at school after hours. Parents of Jr. High students are still encouraged to purchase laptop computer insurance in case of accidental damage during the school day.
