FCCLA Celebrates Christmas Party
by Rose Graham
The Pierce FCCLA had their annual Christmas party on Friday, December 2. Many activities were planned for the evening.
For the past several years, the FCCLA has conducted the Pierce Community Memory Tree Ceremony in conjunction with the Pierce Chamber of Commerce Christmas Open House and Lighted Christmas Parade. The ceremony is to honor deceased loved ones and friends during the holiday season.
This year, the group conducted the ceremony in front of Pierce Physical Therapy in downtown Pierce. Sydney Erickson and Breane Hoffman led the ceremony by welcoming members from the community. A poem called “Light a Candle” was read while several members in the group held lit candles. One-hundred and twenty-five names were read and honored at the ceremony. To conclude, several members of the Pierce Band, led by Mr. Mike Sindt played Christmas hymns while everyone sang along. Three trees holding the ornaments that honor others were lit. The trees will be in the window front of Pierce Physical Therapy through the holiday season.
The FCCLA Christmas party then continued at the high school. Members had a Secret Santa exchange and enjoyed pizza and cookies and bars. Several games and a scavenger hunt planned by members Shianna Oestrich and Junior Aguilar added to the fun evening. Members participated in a scavenger hunt, shrink wrap game, and dodgeball. The party concluded around 10 p.m.
“The annual Christmas party is something we all look forward to,” said FCCLA advisor Mrs. Cheryl Timm. “ We have a good time both helping the community and celebrating together.”
