by Morgan Crist
John Underwood, an internationally recognized human performance expert, lectured the Pierce High students about health and wellness on Thursday, September 7, at the Bluejays’ gym.
John Underwood is an experienced coach who has produced 28 olympians in seven different sports. He also launched the Human Performance Project, built a lab in VA, and has tested with Navy Seals. He flew in from Africa, where he implemented his “Life of an Athlete” program. He has also gone to various other schools across America.
Underwood spoke to the students about the importance of working hard to hone one’s talent and putting in time and effort. Although he has mostly worked in athletics, his message was for all areas. A key factor in performance is sleep, which he discussed thoroughly. He also covered topics such as having doubts, fatigue, and the effects of drugs and alcohol on the brain.
Underwood said of taking health seriously it is, “more needed today than ever before.”
