Marching Into Success
by Aundrea Huber
On October 12 the Pierce High School marching band traveled to Yankton, South Dakota, to compete in parade marching and field marching in the March to the Meridian contest. The band started the day off with parade marching over the Missouri River. They played Burning Love and CC Rider by Elvis Presley during the parade. The band placed first in parade marching for class A-2.
The band then moved on to field marching. They played a selection of songs by Elvis Presley. Michael Sindt, the band director, said “We can improve on some of our marching formations, visual precision, and a few musical details.” He then followed up by saying, “Our future performances will go even better than before because our band works hard every day to improve and loves to perform.” The band got second place in the field, and they got the Best Winds (brass and woodwinds) Award.
Sarah Fenton, a clarinet player, said, “The music sounded good, but we need to work on keeping our lines straight.”
The band will be playing Friday night after the football game, and they will be playing on Saturday at USD in the Quad State Marching Camp.
