The Greenhouse ProjectÂ
by Maddie Huber
Pierce High School will be constructing a greenhouse to provide teachers and students with new and exciting learning opportunities. The greenhouse will be constructed by Bolling Construction.
Although the greenhouse can and will be used by any class, school organization, or club, the Pierce High School FFA chapter was integral in the beginning stages of the project.
FFA Advisor Matthew Neal said, “The school I taught at before Pierce High School had two greenhouses that the ag students managed. Those students really enjoyed the greenhouses and enjoyed the learning activities with them, so I brought up the idea of a greenhouse at one of the Pierce FFA chapter meetings. The FFA members really responded well and took the wheel on the whole process. They formed a committee that met 4 times before they presented the idea to the school board.”
Principal Mark Brahmer said, “I believe the greenhouse will be an excellent addition to the learning environment at Pierce High School. A number of our instructors, namely our science staff along with Mr. Neal, our agriculture teacher, plan to use it to provide learning activities for our students. These activities are ones we couldn't do prior to the addition of the greenhouse. As the principal, I'm quite excited about the opportunities the greenhouse can provide.”
Construction is set to begin this summer.
