Digging in the Dirt

The Pierce FFA took 23 students to Howells-Dodge on Tuesday, October 5, to participate in the Northeast district land judging contest. The contestants were of all ages from freshmen to seniors, and the Pierce team ended up being very successful.
Several of the students made it into the top 30 placings out of over 600 students.
Freshman Alexis Sporleder comments, “I had a good time at land judging. I like meeting new people and trying my best to represent Pierce. I would definitely do it again and recommend it to more students.”
In the contest all the participating schools were directed out of town to a nearby corn field. There, all of the students were split up into eight groups. There were four different pits that the students had to judge. At each pit contestants were given 20 minutes to observe and judge. After all of the groups had finished judging, the bus escorted the students back to the school where lunch was served and the scorecards were tallied.
Senior Brody Nuesch states, “In my opinion land judging went well this year for me and many others. I placed first out of the students in my group. Land judging is always a great experience and a really fun time. I will miss the people and the activity when I am gone.”
