Pierce High Welcomes New Spanish Teacher
by Emma Risinger
For the 2022-2023 school year, Pierce High School has a new face in the foreign language department, Mrs. Marta Victor. She teaches Spanish 1 and 2.
To give a bit of history about Victor, she grew up and attended high school in Laurel. After high school, Victor attended Wayne State College where she became qualified to teach both Spanish and English.
After finishing college, she taught at high schools in Laurel, Wayne, and also did distance teaching to over 10 other schools in Nebraska.
A fun fact about Victor is that she started the Spanish program in Wayne, and before her, the only foreign language available for students to take was German. Counting this year, Victor will have been teaching for a total of 39 years after taking a short break of one year during the 2021-2022 academic year.
Victor is looking forward to her time at Pierce High. When asked about her thoughts about how the year will go, she responded, “I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, and I really enjoy my teaching career. My one year of retirement was fun, but I did miss teaching, so I’m excited for my new adventure at Pierce.”
With any luck, the 2022-2023 school year will be a good one for Victor, and will be just as fulfilling as she is hoping.
