FCCLA Travels to Columbus For DLC
By Lauren Ueding
The Pierce FCCLA chapter traveled to Norfolk to participate in the District Leadership Conference (DLC) with eight schools in our district on Wednesday, October 18, which had a record number of over 300 attendees.
FCCLA stands for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America.
“Overall the day was a great day and experience. Our whole theme was, ‘The Power of FCCLA,’ or ‘Power Of One,’” says advisor Angie Brodersen.
The keynote speaker called, “Revolution,” who was from Columbus, spoke about relationship violence and issues that are impacting adolescents. The keynote speaker and topic were fitting considering that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The FCCLA also had a quiz bowl team that consisted of Shaylee Gardner, Izzabelle Price, Mya Johnson, Jada Johnson, and Kate Anderson. They were quizzed on their FCCLA knowledge and life smarts and finished fourth overall.
The chapter also had J. Johnson compete as their creed speaker, and she placed third overall. “I think we represented Pierce well. We had a great time, and it was my first experience traveling with the FCCLA as a group and it was a lot of fun. I look forward to doing more in the future,” says M. Johnson.
Pierce FCCLA will sponsor the memory tree during the Pierce Chamber of Commerce holiday open house on December 1.
