Seniors Snag Superior for the Last Time

By Addison Frye
NSBA (Nebraska State Bandmasters Association) State Marching Festival in Kearney was the Pride of Bluejays marching band final competition of their 2024 show, Latin Moods on Saturday, October 26. The band performed Malaguena, Perfidia, and Santana one last time for the judges at 4 p.m., and they received a superior in field marching.

“The 2024 marching season went very well. We placed well and got consistent superior ratings. The marching season always goes by quickly, and sometimes we don't take the time to appreciate how impressive it is that such a diverse group of individuals can come together for a short time and work to perform at a high level,” director band, Michael Sindt says. “As always, I really appreciate all of the work and time that our seniors have put in over the years.  They are special, because they had the tenacity to participate in marching band to the end by embracing the diversity of our band family for the love of music and performance.”

The seniors this year are plentiful, including Hadleigh Collison, Shaylee Gardner, Zoey Ebmeier, Lauren Ueding, Shayna Haase, Aubrey Hanson, Kaylee Steffen, Amelia Ahlers, Trayton Christiansen, Kira Vavra, and Mia Sackville. This is the last time they will be on a high school field for competition.

“I’m glad I have such an amazing section who was quick to learn and is really talented,” four year alto saxophone section leader Steffen says. “I am sad that the season is over, but I'm happy with how well we did this season. I’ve got to make a lot of memories over the years I have been in band. I will miss hanging out with friends and the competitions.”

“I am sad this season is over because marching band is really fun and I'm going to miss it a lot,” Sackville, a clarinet player who switched to a cymbals player says. “I will miss the rides on the bus with everyone and getting to talk to people I really wouldn't talk to if I wasn’t in band.”

Wish the band well at the end of their 2024 marching season and the start of concert season.
