Believers and Achievers Award
By Jana Stone
The Believers and Achievers Award is given to students who are school leaders. There are two types of awards: one is for the state, but one is for the local school district. There are 48 statewide winners, and eight are chosen to win a $500 scholarship from Currency.
Skylar Scholting received the Believers and Achievers Award statewide, and Scholting, Aubrey Hanson, and Claudia Riggert were the Believers and Achievers Award recipients for Pierce’s local school winners.
“I think it's really cool. I wasn't really expecting to be chosen because there were so many great candidates, so it's very exciting that I got selected,” Scholting comments.
To qualify for Currency’s Believers and Achievers award, the student must be a senior or junior, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5, and participate in NSAA-sponsored activities. The students also have to be involved in school club organizations, youth organizations, and write a 250-300-page essay on one of the specific topics that is given.
When the school counselor Danielle Goetsch was asked about how the nominations are made she said, “Mr. Bramher and I are the ones who nominate students for this award. We usually go with the top three in the class, and then we look to see if they have a good ACT score.”
Each school then nominates three maximum students to be awarded.
Congratulations to the Believers and Achievers.
