A Magical Evening of Music with 6-8 Grade Band & Choir

By Savannah Beutler

On Tuesday, November 5, Pierce hosted the annual 6-8 grade band and choir concert. The concert showcased how much hard work and dedication the students put into their music.

“The sixth grade students are particularly focused and in tune with musical nuances which is allowing them to play more songs in a shorter amount of time,” band director Michael Sindt comments. “Our junior high band has a lot of energy this year and quality players in every section letting us play a good variety of music.”

The junior high band played “Fanfare for Our Time” by Tyler Grant, “Metschke March” by Nolan Schmit, and “Primeval Stormfront” by Matt Conaway.

Up next was the sixth grade chorus sang who sang “The Frim Fram Sauce” arranged by Greg Gilpin, “The Ghost of John” by Martha Grubb, and “Spooky Scary Skeletons” arranged by  Roger Emerson. In “Spooky Scary Skeletons,” there were some individual dancers dressed as skeletons.

The sixth grade band followed, and they played “Majestic March” by Paul Lavender, “Creatures in the Attic” by Brian Balmages, “Minor Rock” by Ron Cowherd and “Let’s Rock” by Michael Sweeney.

The final presentation of the evening was the junior high chorus who sang “Take Me Home Country Roads” arranged by Roger Emerson, “Our America (Medley)” arranged by John Higgins, “Inscription of Hope” arranged by Z. Randall Stroope, and “Witch Doctor” arranged by Mark Brymer.

Amy Barnhill explains, “Sight reading is always a challenge and some are quick to say "I don't like this, it's too hard." But after they learn the songs they start to enjoy them. They improved so much from when they started.”

Sindt is the band director, Barnhill is the vocal director, and Celine Fehringer is the accompanist.

From the performances of the band to vocal harmonies from the choir, it was a wonderful night for music and it was clear there were great musicians growing up.
