Remembering Our Veterans
By Jessa Kraft
The colors red, white, and blue stand tall and proud every day but a special meaning emerges on one particular day. Veteran’s Day. Every year Pierce High holds a special ceremony to celebrate our warriors.
The American Legion and Auxiliary had the colors, or flags, in place for all of the soldiers in the past and present.
During the ceremony, ghe Pierce High band and choir played a special role in the program. The band played the National Anthem, “Message on the Rock,” and service songs, while the choir sang an Americana Suite.
The Legion Baseball Players bore the weight in the Parade of the Flags, which lined one side of the gymnasium.
During this time “Taps” was played by Trayton Christiansen and Payton Ebmeier
“I was scared and nervous because this song is played for veterans when they pass away, but at the same point it was cool to be able to participate,” Ebmeier, one of the trumpet players who performed “Taps” stated.
“I felt honored because when I looked out at the crowd I could tell there was sadness on people’s faces while they were remembering,” Brandon Thompson, who held the signs of the military while the band was playing said.
Guest speaker pastor Chad Boggs, Vicar Jacob Friedrich, Rick Sirek, and Ava Knox are especially thanked for speaking to everyone who attended the ceremony.
Military veterans were recognized and cherished during these unique moments in Pierce's history and will be remembered for years to come.
