Boys Wrestling Takes On the Norm Manstedt Meet

The Pierce High boy wrestlers traveled to Columbus for the Norm Manstedt meet on Friday, January 10 and Saturday, January 11. The Warbirds finished the weekend in sixth place with a total of 125 team points. 

Wrestling at 113, Kolten Wragge placed ninth and scored the team eight and a half team points. In round one, Wragge won by tech fall 18-2 over Josue Escobar of Schuyler. Wragge then won by an 11-0 major decision over James Wells of Battle Creek. In round three, Wragge lost in a 16-0 tech fall to Frost Wallace of Gering. Wragge received a bye in consolation round one. He then won by fall over Kelstyn Lindner from Broken Bow in round two of the consolation matches. In Wragge’s ninth place match, he won by fall over Ethan Salak of Columbus.  

Corbin Pfeil (120) scored seven team points and concluded the weekend with a ninth place finish as well. Pfeil started his first day by pinning Kevin Escobar-Romero of Columbus in round one. In round two, Pfeil lost by decision, 15-9, to Emmett Palmer of Broken Bow. Pfeil then lost by an 8-2 decision to Evan Strom from Gering. In round one of the consolation matches, Pfeil won a 14-5 major decision over Blake Warren from Syracuse. Next, in round two of the consolation matches, Pfeil pinned Kason Kemp from Battle Creek. To conclude his day, Pfeil won the ninth place match by taking a 4-0 decision over Jack Taylor of Bellevue West. 

At 126, Draydin Gossman placed sixth and scored 13.5 team points. In Gossman’s first match, he won by tech fall, 15-0, over Colton Uhlig of Broken Bow. Gossman then won by pinning Ryker Koenig from Archbishop Bergan in round two, followed by received a bye in round three. In round four, Gossman won by fall over Tate Kitchen of Centennial. Gossman won by pin in round five over Gaspar Juarez from Schuyler. In the quarterfinal match, Gossman lost by tech fall 21-4 to Ryan Hartmann from Bellevue West. Gossman won by forfeit over Jakson McFarland of Columbus in the consolation semifinals. In the final match, Gossman lost by fall to Keaton Busch from David City to place sixth.

A senior, Elijah Streff (132) placed 11th and scored the team nine points. In round one, Streff lost by fall to Treyton Kropatsch of Columbus. Wrestling his teammate, Streff pinned Brody Kesting in round two. Streff then won by an 11-6 decision over Mynor Hernandez from Schuyler in round three. In round four Streff pinned Max Flannery from West Holt in :11. Streff then lost by fall to Ashton Kuchar of Battle Creek in the following round. In the consolation quarterfinals, he won by fall over Klayton Rerucha of David City. Following in the consolation semifinals, Streff lost by a 12-3 major decision to Gavin Mauch of Boone Central. To place Streff 11, he won by pinning Owen Lawrence from Columbus. 

Wrestling at 138, Baiden Neuhalfen scored five team points and placed 14th. In round one, Neuhalfen lost by fall to Chaz Erickson of Kearney Catholic. Following in round two, Neuhalfen lost by fall to Laitenn Braithwait of Columbus. Neuhalfen then received a bye in round three. In round four Neuhalfen pinned Carter Wettlaufer from West Holt. He then lost by fall in round five to Jager Leichleiter from Tekamah-Herman. Neuhalfen then lost by fall to Alex Jacinto of Columbus in the consolation quarterfinals. In the consolation semifinals, Neuhalfen won by forfeit over Athen Salcedo from Bellevue West. To place Neuhalfen 14th, he lost in a 5-4 decision to John Martinez of Schuyler. 

Cole DeBoer, wrestling at 144, placed 12th and scored eight and a half team points. In round one, DeBoer pinned Greysen Light of York. DeBoer then won by tech fall, 15-0, over Stanley Allen from David City in round two. In round three he lost by fall to Payton Perez of Lincoln Northeast. DeBoer then lost by decision in round four to Isaiah Murillo from Gering. In round five DeBoer won by pinning Noah Mahlin of Battle Creek. Advancing to the consolations, in the quarterfinals DeBoer pinned Sawyer Pruss of Archbishop Bergan. In the semifinals, DeBoer fell to Trevor Burdick from Valentine. DeBoer lost in his final match to Jed Berggren from Cross County/Osceola, which placed him 12th. 

At 150, Brenden Bolling ended the weekend with a fourth place finish and scored the team 14.5 points. In round one, Bolling won by tech fall, 20-5, over Arturo Ovando of Schuyler. He also won by a 24-4 tech fall in round two over Cobe Wells from Broken Bow. Bolling then received a bye in round three. In round four Bolling won by a 21-6 tech fall over Max Erickson of York. Bolling then won by major decision, 17-3, over Grady Meyer from Wahoo in round five. In the quarterfinal, Bolling won by decision over Jace Rerucha of David City. Advancing to the semifinal, Bolling lost in a 5-3 decision to Scottie Meier Jr from Lincoln East. To conclude his weekend, in the third and fourth place match Bolling lost a 5-4 decision to Grady Meyer of Wahoo.

Wrestling at 157, Kaiden Ronnfeldt placed 15th and scored three and a half team points. In his first round, Ronnfeldt won by tech fall, 17-2, over Roland Spilinek of Lincoln Lutheran. He then lost by a 19-15 decision to Xayvion Epps of Columbus in round two. In round three, Ronnfeldt lost by a 17-2 tech fall to Christopher Shannon from Schuyler. Ronnfeldt then fell to Ryder Kruse of Lincoln East in round four. In round five Ronnfeldt received a bye. In the consolation quarterfinals, he lost by fall to Josh Mace of Archbishop Bergan. Following, in the consolation semifinals, Ronnfeldt lost by a 10-2 major decision to Aidan Markham from Broken Bow. To finish out his day, Ronnfeldt won by medical forfeit over Epps to receive a 15th place finish.

Peyton Kruntorad (165), a senior, placed 12th and scored the team seven points. In round one, he won by fall over Zach VanderTop of Lincoln Lutheran. He also pinned Sam Walters from Syracuse in round two, and in round three defeated Nathan Werner of Elkhorn Valley 7-4. Following, in round four, he lost by fall to Noah Bordovsky from Wahoo. Kruntorad then lost to Clayton Elliott of Valentine by fall. Moving on to consolation matches, in the quarterfinals he pinned Aden Feezell of Cross County/Osceola. Kruntorad then lost to Cooper Junge from Lincoln East by a 9-1 major decision in the consolation semifinals. To conclude Kruntorad’s day, he wrestled for 11th place against Dominick Ogden of West Holt and lost by fall.

Kyle Kuehler, wrestling at 175, placed ninth and scored the team 11.5 points. In Kuehler’s first match, he wrestled Max Arps of Schuyler and won by tech fall, 20-3. He then won by pinning Brayden Campbell from Syracuse in round two. In round three, Kuehler lost by a 13-0 major decision to Jordan Johnson of Lincoln East. Casey Schnebel from Battle Creek then beat Kuehler by fall in round four. In the consolation quarterfinals, Kuehler pinned Jackson Gerdes of Sandy Creek. He then pinned Paxton Burke from Cross County/Osceola in the consolation semifinals. To give Kuehler his ninth place finish, he pinned Parker Dishman of Centennial to end his day.

Wrestling at 190, Brody Coulter placed 15th and scored four team points. To start his day, Coulter lost by fall to Jesse Divis of David City. In round two Coulter lost to Zayden Londene of York by tech fall, 15-0. Coulter then lost by fall to Tyler Zwingman from Columbus. In round four Coulter pinned Elijah Kilonzo from Elkhorn Valley. In round five, Coulter received a bye. To start his consolation matches, he lost by fall to Nathan Treat of Bellevue West and Jaxson Halsey from Elkhorn Valley by fall. To place Coulter 15th, he won by pinning William Rodriguez from Schuyler. 

At 215, Christian Nordby placed sixth and scored 14 team points. In rounds one and two, Nordby pinned Luke Soucie of Sandy Creek and Lane Johnson from Centennial. In round three Nordby won by medical forfeit over Daceson Morgan from Lincoln Northeast. Nordby then won in round four by fall over Lukas Kadolph from Gering. In round five Nordby lost to Colton Tucker of Lincoln East by fall. In Nordby’s quarterfinal match, he lost 4-1 in sudden victory-1 to Dahkota Zlomke of Battle Creek. In the consolation semifinals, Nordby pinned Grant Osborne from West Holt. To conclude Nordby’s day and give him his sixth place finish, he lost by a 9-0 major decision to Brody Mattox of York.

Placing fourth, Boston Krueger (285) scored 19 team points. Krueger won his first four matches pinning Cooper Buxton of Columbus, Nathan Gilman from Elkhorn Valley, Luke Nebuda of Archbishop Bergan and Trenton Walker from Centennial. Krueger then lost by a 7-3 decision in round five to Connor Heiderman from Battle Creek. In his quarterfinal match, Krueger won by medical forfeit over Ryland Schweiss from Bellevue West. Advancing to the semifinal, Krueger lost to Keagyn Linden from York by fall. Wrapping up Krueger’s day, he lost his third place match to Bryce Luehring of Bellevue West by fall.

“I thought the boys wrestled well but we need to finish matches and tournaments with more intensity,” stated head coach, Tyler Legate.

The warbirds will take the mats on Thursday, January 16, in Pierce for a triangular against Crofton and Bon Homme.
