The Pierce High speech team navigated down to Boone Central for the yearly speech invite. Both the junior varsity and varsity teams competed.
“I thought the team did well; however, I believe we could’ve done better,” Nickolas Efta, a senior who has been in speech since he was a sophomore, states. “I think I performed quite well, and I’m ready to be even better.” Efta performs in oral interpretation of drama, program oral interpretation, and duet acting.
On varsity, Josie Painter placed fifth in persuasive speaking. Finally, Mya Johnson, Efta, and Spencer Sindt placed fifth in oral interpretation of drama (OID).
Painter, a sophomore, performs extemporaneous and persuasive speeches. “I need to improve my overall performance by using better gestures and better nonverbal communication cues,” Painter says.
The speech team had a total of nine placements, on the junior varsity side, Camassia White and Uther Noguiera got a fourth and fifth place finish in entertainment speaking, respectively.
Payton Montgomery placed third in informative speaking.
Natasha Zamora placed fourth in poetry.
Kate Anderson placed sixth in serious prose. Aubrie Zimmerman and Brayden Lambrecht came in second and fifth in persuasive speaking.
The speech team performs February 1 at the Hartington speech meet.
