FCCLA’s Annual Appreciation Week
By Brody Coulter
FCCLA week is an annual event held every school year during the second week of February, and this year Pierce High will celebrate February 10-14.
FCCLA, meaning Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, aims to show students how to make a difference in their family and community.
Angie Brodersen, the chapter leader, says. “The central focus is family, but we also focus on anything from healthcare to design to leadership education and business,”
Next week, February 10-14, the Pierce FCCLA chapter will host the annual FCCLA week. During FCCLA week the committee sponsors a fundraiser called candy grams, which allow students to buy their friends and or secret admirers to buy them a candy bar or a drink.
Brodersen says that the purpose of FCCLA week is to show recognition to those involved in the organization.
Part of FCCLA week includes dress up days for the students. On Monday, the theme is pajama day, on Tuesday the dress up day is Hawaiian or beach day, due to this years FCCLA week being themed “Splash your way into FCCLA” and on Wednesday the theme is dress like your type, so students are asked to dress as someone they have a crush on. Thursday’s theme is just broke up, so students are asked to dress as if their heart was broken and they were too distressed to care how they dressed. On Friday everyone is asked to wear red or pink while members wear FCCLA shirts.
“Since FCCLA week lands on the same week as Valentine's Day, we wanted to have days that involved the day,” Sydney Kuper, the vice president of membership says.
