The Bluejays Dominate in their Last Regular Season Game

The Pierce girl's basketball team trekked to West Point to take on Guardian Angels on Thursday, February 13, taking out the Guardian Angels Bluejays, 56-41.
Starting off in the first quarter of the game Abigail Cone led the team with six points. Following Cone was sophomore Haley Scholting, who scored two points. The Bluejays ended the quarter 9-8, falling one point behind the Guardian Angels.
In the second quarter, the Bluejays from Pierce flew past their opponents 13-7. Junior Cone scored six more points, senior Skylar Scholting added four points, and H. Scholting scored one point, going 1-1 in the second quarter for free throws. Emily Endorf added two points to close the first half of the game 21-16.
Flying out of halftime the Jays refused to allow Guardian Angels to catch up to them. Cone led the third quarter with eight points. Not far behind Cone was S. Scholting hitting two three’s. Hadley Wragge contributed four points to win the third quarter 18-12 and lead 39-28.
Taking the court one last time in the fourth quarter, the girls scored 17 points while Guardian Angels scored 13 points. Scoring the most in the fourth quarter was S. Scholting with six points. Cone with five points as well as H. Scholting with five points. Nora Herian went 1-1 for free throws. Ending the game the Pierce Bluejays took out Guardian Angels 56-41.
Senior Skylar Scholting also accomplished a milestone of scoring 1000 career points.
“It was great to beat GACC on their home court and end the regular season on a win like that. We are peaking at the right time, and we are just going to take sub-districts one game at a time,” Cone states.
The varsity girls finished the regular season 16-6. They will compete in sub-districts from February 18-20 in Arlington.
Pierce Dominates Against Clarkson-Leigh

The Pierce High girls varsity team had a game against Clarkson Leigh on Tuesday, February 12, with the Bluejays dominating and winning, 53-35.
“I think it went well on the defensive side and on the offensive side it is improving,” Hadley Wragge, a varsity starter, stated.
In the first quarter, the score was 7-6 with Pierce in the lead.
In the second quarter, Pierce added 14 more, making the score 21-13 going into halftime.
With the third quarter coming, the Pierce girls got going offensively, adding 19 more to the scoreboard, while Clarkson Leigh scored 14, but Pierce was still in the lead in the end, 40-27.
By the end of the game, the Bluejays added 13 more and held the Patriots to only eight, and Pierce won the game with the final score adding up to 53-35.
“The girls did great defending the ball and playing good offense” Coach Darin Suckstorf stated after the game.
