Should Kids Have Their Phones in School
By Parker Gaes
Let's dive into the reasons why students should or should not have phones in school.
These are some reasons why phones should be allowed in school. They can help certain people with disabilities or diabetes. Phones do not always mean kids are just messing around.
Many schools allow their kids to have phones and many kids are not allowed to have them.
As a kid myself, I believe that phones should be allowed in school, because sometimes we just need a break from a long exhausting class period of notes. For example, when the instructor is done talking about the lesson or whatever you may be doing, kids may get very bored or in some cases exhausted. That is where a phone comes in, the kid can go and see what their friend or parents have texted them throughout the day. In some schools they allow them to grab their phones at lunch time.
On the other hand some schools say NO! to phones because they like them to see their students socialize rather than see them be on their phones.
Our school had a poll to see if kids should have phones or not, and out of the 108 kids that answered the question, 55 of those kids said yes we should have phones, and 53 kids said we should not have our phones.
From a kids point of view of why we should not have phones in school, “I think we shouldn’t have phones in school because it’s a distraction to our learning,” Brayden Wolken said.
“I think we need phones in school because we have lots of free time after homework is done and I don't wanna just sit around and do nothing the rest of the class,” a response from a student who said yes, Caycen Ernst, said,
There are more kids from Pierce Jr/Sr High School that said we want phones in school because they say they have way too much time in the classes. Almost 52% of our school said we need them in class, but 48% said that they do not want to have phones in class because they are a distraction to our learning, like Wolken said.
