Cheer Tryouts Take Place

By Elizabeth Furstenau
With the winter sports season ending, the hunt for new cheerleaders begins. Tryouts for the 2025-2026 season took place Thursday, March 13, in the multipurpose room.

This year, the tryouts included a crowd cheer called “We Are Pierce,” a tryout dance, and the traditional “Onward Bluejays” dance. They also had to show off a few kicks and jumps. After showing what they learned, the auditionees were asked a few questions about why they would make a good cheerleader.

The judge panel for tryouts is always the year’s graduating senior cheerleaders and a few alumni cheerleaders. Aubrey Hanson, Aylla Weeder, Alexis Sporleder, and Jana Stone were a part of the panel, as well as alumni members Kailey Marks and Abby Freeman.

The 2025-2026 cheer team will consist of seniors Elizabeth Furstenau, Mya Johnson, Hannah Marten, Colbie Podany, and Aubree Uribe; juniors Jada Brummels, Maya Johnson, Payten Montgomery, Jessica Suckstorf, Lauren Delka, Brynn Schwartz, Jenalee McRoberts, and Eleanor Bauermeister, the only freshman.

“I feel relieved, very thankful, and proud of myself for having the confidence to try something new that I have never done before,” Bauermeister claims. “I'm also very excited for what new doors cheer can open for me.”

“I’m sad that this is gonna be my last year in cheer as a senior, but I can’t focus on that sadness because I just feel so blessed to have made so many memories with so many amazing girls,” junior Johnson states. “I’m just happy that I have gotten to experience it in the first place.”
