Pierce Performs at Mid-State Conference Band
By Brianna Rundell
Wayne State College hosted the Mid-State conference band performance on March 7. Students from each school are selected by the host to go to this conference.
To begin the day, the performers got their instruments and settled in. The conductor gave an introduction and then band members spent a majority of the day practicing the songs for the concert in the evening.
“I met a lot of cool people now that we have Ponca in our conference,” Trayton Christiansen, a senior, commented. “The director was awesome; if I could go again I would.”
The song selections for the evening were “March of the Arachnids” by Randall D. Standrige, “Psalm 42” arranged by Samuel R. Hazo, “Ascension” by Randall D. Standrige, “Byzantine Dances” by Carol Brittin Chambers, “Backlash” by Katahj Copley, “Awakening Hills” by Richard Saucedo, “Rivers” by Samuel R. Hazo, and finally “Jungle Dance” by Brian Balmages.
“I would gladly go again next year. It was just kind of annoying how we had very few breaks between our practices, and it was just quite a long day. Overall it was really enjoyable,” Keaton Vavra, who also attended, said.
The evening concert showcased the hard work put in throughout the day and a deep appreciation for their shared passion for music.
