Pierce Attends District Speech at Schuyler

By Brianna Rundell

The Pierce speech team was in Schuyler on Saturday, March 22, for the district B-3 speech contest.

“I was very proud of how everyone performed,” head coach Melissa Legate commented. “All their hard work this season really showed, I have high hopes for state. All our qualifiers are incredibly talented and have great pieces. No matter what the results end up being, getting down to state and competing on that stage is such an exciting experience, and I’m thrilled that Aubrey, Mya, Josie, and Payton get that opportunity.”

Claiming top spot in districts, senior Aubrey Hansen placed first in entertainment speaking and will compete at state.

Mya Johnson, a junior, competed in program oral interpretation, placed second, and will compete at state.

“I think we did very well as a team at Schuyler, we had multiple people make it to finals and everyone performed great throughout the day it was a great way to end the season,” Johnson said.

Sophomore Payton Ebmeier competed in persuasive speech, placed third, and will be going to state.

Sophomore Josie Painter was in extemporaneous speaking and also placed third.

In this particular meet, also medaling for Pierce, but not qualifying for state were three others. Senior Nickolas Efta and sophomore Spencer Sindt placed fifth in duet acting.

Sindt also competed in oral interpretation of humorous prose and placed sixth.

Senior Alexis Sporleder also placed sixth in informative speaking.

With several members earning a spot at state, they prepare for the next level in their competition.
