Two Teens Thrive in a Small Business
By Peyton Brunckhorst
Two high school students turned a classroom idea into a growing business called H.W. Halters. Dierck White and Alexandria Huwaldt were sitting in their Natural Resources class, working on their SAE (supervised agricultural experience) hours for their AET (agricultural experience tracker) for FFA.
“We could create high-quality halters at a price that anyone can afford,” White stated.
Initially, it was just an idea that the two were brainstorming, considering it would be a good opportunity to learn a new skill. However, their ad teacher, Matt Neal, encouraged them to turn it into an SAE project, which was how the small business started.
H.W. Halters is a small business owned by White and Huwaldt. The two create hand-braided rope cattle halters crafted to perfection that are durable and affordable.
H.W. Halters has sold around 20 halters, offering two sizes: calf and cow. The calf halters are priced at $7 while the cow halters are $8 dollars.
The business is now preparing for a sale of 50 halters in July.
