By Rylee Altwine
On Wednesday, March 26, four members of the Pierce speech team traveled to Kearney High School to show off their skills for the last time this year at the NSAA class B state speech contest.
Making it to state speech were sophomores Payton Ebmeier and Josie Painter, junior Mya Johnson, and senior Aubrey Hanson.
“State was filled with amazing competition so it was so great to be able to see all of them and know that I was able to keep up with them,” Hanson stated.
At state, all competitors have three qualifying rounds and from those three rounds, the top six competitors move on to the final round.
Starting off with persuasive speaking was Ebmeier, who placed 18th. Next up was Painter with a place of 12th in extemporaneous speaking. Johnson took on program oral interpretation (POI) and placed 14th. Lastly Hanson placed eighth in entertainment speaking.
“State speech was so much fun. All of us went there and performed our best. It was a great learning experience just being around so many incredible speakers all day. It was an awesome way to end our season,” Johnson states.
