Cross Country Preview
By Kendall Shada
Fall has finally arrived, and that means that the Bluejay cross country season has begun! This year, the running Jays have 12 high school runners.
Seniors on the team are Lainey Jensen, Isabelle Kuehler, Kyle Abler, Brenden Bolling, and Carl Vogt. The four juniors on the team are Bailee Thelen, Essynce Owens-Webb, Maxwell Weber, and Kendall Shada. The Bluejay sophomores are Melanie Mendez and Blaine Anson. Lastly, to end it off, the lone freshman is Brynley Koch.
The team can frequently be seen on the Willow Creek trail going out for their long runs or even on the soccer field running their workouts. At meets, the course can range from being very flat to being very hilly and challenging.
“The boys should have a very solid team,” head coach Gary Shada states. “The fact that they have everyone back and the addition of Brenden Bolling makes a team that was going to be good that much better,” Shada also says. “The girls lost a lot from last year; they lost four of the top five, and that’s really difficult to replace.”
“The goal for us as a team is to make it to state. Adding Brenden Bolling is gonna make us that much better,” Anson says. He also adds, “Coach Shada has prepared us very well with the kind of workouts he's had us do.”
