Behind the Scenes of Homecoming
By Brianna Rundell
Every high school student knows that homecoming is one of the best parts of the fall semester of the school year, but who makes it happen? How much time do students take out of their days to make sure everything is perfect?
Girls letter club homecoming committee is the one behind it all; they make the decorations, set everything up in the auditorium, choose what the dress up days are for homecoming week, and so much more.
The theme gets chosen by GLC members voting from select choices. Once the decision is made, all the planning and decorations begins.
“The homecoming committee makes a lot of decisions and behind that the homecoming committee got into groups, one decorating the picture area, one decorating the stage, one plans the table with the snacks and stuff, one plans the entry way,” GLC Advisor Shelly Adams said.
Every year students pay a small fee to enter the dance, the money gets placed into a homecoming fund. This fund pays for the cost of decorations, a DJ, and refreshments like candy, snacks, and drinks.
Committee members say the process is time consuming but collaborating with the others makes it worthwhile.
“Finding all of the decorations and trying to coordinate everything, because everyone has their own separate groups of focus, so trying to coordinate with each person's ideas and all the colors is difficult but other than that it's not that difficult,” Elizabeth Furstenau, a homecoming committee member, said.
There is nothing wrong with being excited about homecoming, but make sure to thank those who made it happen.
Homecoming will take place on September 12 with the coronation after the football game and on Saturday, September 13, the dance will take place at the auditorium at 8 p.m.
