Pierce Bluejays Dominates Against DC West Falcons
By Brayden Suckstorf
The Bluejays hit the field locked in and ready to play on Friday, September 12, which was also their homecoming game against the Douglas County West Falcons.
The Bluejays started on defense, but not long after, Ryder Theisen got an interception, changing the momentum on the Falcons' opening drive. After the interception, the Bluejays were firing on all cylinders, and Kaiden Fritz took it to the house for one of his three touchdowns of the night. Shortly after, the Jays forced another stop on defense, and then Bryce Lindstrom trucked his way into the end zone, making the game 14-0 in the first quarter.
The Bluejays had the ball at the beginning of the second quarter, and Gavin Lubischer made defenders miss, taking it all the way in for a touchdown, making the game 21-0 after Tate Wales kicked the PAT in. Pierce got yet another stop on defense and drove it down the field, while Kaiden Fritz walked the ball into the end zone for his second touchdown. The Falcons fired right back, taking it to the house on a kick return, which was the only time they scored the whole game. Cameron Kuehler blocked the PAT, making it his second PAT block of the season. The score at halftime was 28-6.
After halftime, it was just a back-and-forth defensive game, but late in the third quarter, Fritz ran it in for another touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Cole DeBoer closed the game by finding an open hole and ran it in for a touchdown. The final score of the game was 42-6, Bluejays.
“We came out on fire, and we did not let up. We knew it was gonna be a fight, and it sure was but at the end of the day we came out on top and I feel like we made a statement,” head coach Darin Suckstorf stated. "I thought we had a great start to the game and carried that momentum to help gain a lead and ultimately win the game.”
The Pierce Bluejays will travel to Fort Calhoun for a tough game against the Pioneers on Friday, September 19.
