PHS Girls Golf

Golf Competes at Boone Central

The girls golf team made their way to Boone Central for an 18-hole competition on Saturday, September 20. Rylee Altwine, Pierce’s senior golfer, fell just short of first place, shooting a 78 to claim the runner-up honors.

Also competing as a team at Boone Central were junior Addison Frye and sophomores Camassia White, Brooke Podany, and Alyvia Marks.

Frye made the top 20 by shooting a 102 and earning 19 place.

Falling just out of reach for the top 20, White scored a 104 finishing in 23rd place.

Podany, who finished with a 119, ended her day in 45th place.

Wrapping up the team scores, and earning 50th place shooting a 125 was Marks, who just won the team playoff hole to join the varsity team.

“Saturday was a great day to play golf; there was no wind, and it was the perfect temperature. I am very happy with the way I performed. Even though I lost by one stroke, I kept a smile on my face all day, not letting the bad shots put me down. I had my first-ever eagle, which was awesome. I’m really looking forward to Thursday and getting the chance to play Wayne one more time before districts. I hope to improve on the little things every day and continue to have lots of fun with my team during the remainder of the season,” Altwine explains.

By Chloe Bernhardt

The girls golf team headed to Wayne on Thursday, September 18, to compete in a triangular with Wayne and Hartington Cedar Catholic, and placing first was senior Rylee Altwine, who shot a 42.

“My putting was really good, and I got a new putter. I hit a lot of fairways. I am very grateful to play that course as many times as we do before districts,” Altwine comments.

Brooke Podany ended her day with a 56, placing fourth. Camassia White ended up shooting a 56. Addison Frye shot a 59, and Brailey Jensen ended the day with a 69.

“We have to keep improving and having fun,” head coach Jason Freudenburg states.

On junior varsity, Alyvia Marks finished with a score of 57 while Jaelyn Jensen shot a 69.

The girls will compete in Hartington Cedar Catholic on Tuesday, September 23.
