Bluejays Win Triangular
By Abbie Cone

For their final triangular of the year, the Pierce Bluejays made the trip to Albion to compete against the Wayne Blue Devils and the Boone Central Cardinals on Tuesday, October 7, and came out with two wins.

“I’m proud that in the end we fought hard and won. It was not our best performance [in the Boone Central game] but it definitely helps our team’s confidence in the sense that we know we can win those tight games when things aren’t going our way,” setter Adrienne Riggert comments.

The Bluejays competed against the Blue Devils first and swept them 2-0. Pierce commanded the first set 25-16, and dominated the second 25-14.

For only a 2-set game, Pierce put up a strong offensive showing, Nora Herian led the team with 11 kills, and Abbie Cone followed with 10. Freshman Lydia Cone had six kills, and Emily Endorf had three.

Haley Scholting racked up three ace serves, A. Cone and Herian added two, and Josie Painter tallied one.

In their second match, Pierce defeated the Cardinals 2-1 in a battle. The Bluejays came out strong and won the first set 25-11, then lost 25-15, then pushed through and finished with a win 27-25.

Herian made 11 digs throughout the game, and Painter followed with eight. Herian also totaled 13 kills, L. Cone added nine, and A. Cone had seven.

A. Cone also had three aces this match, Scholting followed with two, and Herian had one.

The Bluejays will travel to West Point on Tuesday, October 14, to take on Guardian Angels Central Catholic (GACC) for their last regular-season conference match of the year.

“I am proud of the way we finished that third set. It was a big jump for us, because historically, we have not finished a lot of matches like that,” head coach Zach Weber remarks.
