Unfiltered and Hilarious Thoughts that Come From Tiny Truth-Tellers
By Elizabeth Furstenau
Which kind of people say the first thought that pops into their head, and have no remorse or knowledge of it? The answer is kids.
Everyone in the world, at one time or another, has said something that either made no sense or should not have been said. Those people typically regret saying that, but kids are a different story. They will walk up to a stranger and say their fish drowned, and fully believe themselves.
What have the children of the Pierce community said? The best people to ask are teachers, daycare workers, and parents.
Pierce High senior Mikenzie Lawrence hears a lot from kids as she helps out at the elementary school in the kindergarten classroom and has an after school job at ABC123 daycare.
“One of my kindergarteners at the fire station told a firefighter that their mom does not buckle them into their carseat,” Lawrence claimed.
That does not seem like a statement that should be announced, especially to a firefighter. Did the child think about what that meant for their mom? Absolutely not, because that is how kids are: They say whatever pops into their imaginative heads.
Another person who is always sure to have some thoughts written down is fifth grade teacher Kate Bretschneider. Not only does she have stories from recent years, but also from her first years as a teacher.
“One of the kids once told me, ‘I need the little thing’ when he was doing his English assignment,” Bretschneider said. “I was like ‘what do you mean?’ And he made a shape in the air of what it was. It was a comma.”
This was said by one of her first fifth graders she has had. Sometimes she overhears conversations as well.
“Another one is a girl talking about curling her hair and blow drying it,” Bretschneider explained. “And another student, very matter of factly, goes, ‘you’re not supposed to blow dry your hair because it’s bad for your hair. I read about it on a MAPS test.’”
Did the student truly read that from a MAPS test? No one will ever know because what is the point in fact checking a child?
Being around children seems like a fun time for teachers and daycare employees. One of the best qualities about littles is they say what they want. Some of the time young children say what everyone else is thinking. Being as blunt as a child could get someone in trouble, so it is best to leave that to the kids.
