Future Careers of the Seniors of Pierce High School

By Rylee Altwine

Looking into the future is very important for seniors. Some may not know what they want to do yet and others have everything planned out.

Abbie Cone wants to go into speech pathology. “I'm into speech pathology because it's a career that has positions in any type of community. I enjoy working with kids, but not so much in a full classroom learning environment,” Cone states.

Alanna McKeown wants to be an elementary teacher. “I want to be an elementary school teacher because I enjoy that the students still love school, but they don’t cry as much. Taking child development class is what pushed me to be a teacher,” Mckeown states.

Naomi Sullivan wants to be a radiology technician. I want to be a radiology technician because I enjoyed learning about it in physiology and medical terms. Mrs. Koehlmoos made it very enjoyable to learn about. When I went to Plainview Hospital, they took me into the rad tech room, and it was very interesting,” Sullivan states.

Addison Willer wants to work in the agriculture business field. “I want to work in ag because I grew up on a farm and like dealing with crops and how everything on the farm works. My mom Crystal Fisher inspired me to work in this field. My mom inspired me because I have always enjoyed watching her when I was little and grew up around it, and I have gained a lot of interest in agriculture,” Willer states.

Colbie Podany wants to be a dental hygienist. “I want to be a dental hygienist because I like science and I am interested in the career. My moms friend Stephanie inspired me to pursue this career,” Podany states. Podany plans on attending Northeast for two years and the University of South Dakota for two years to gain a degree to become a dental hygienist.

Aubree Uribe wants to be a nurse. “I want to be a nurse because I like helping people. I went on a job shadow at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, and I really enjoyed seeing how everything works. Physiology helped me gain interest in wanting to pursue nursing,” Uribe states. She plans to attend Northeast for two years and the University of South Dakota for two years.

The 2026 graduating class has a wide range of different careers they want to pursue. Even though some may not know what career best fits them, Pierce Public Schools helps students explore all their options by sending them on job shadows and even putting them in classes that might spark their interest in a career.
