I would say that this year our group is really motivated and winning against Boone definitely gave us a lot of confidence. The biggest adjustment so far this year has been playing faster and being committed to transition opportunities and early offense,” A. Cone said.

Ending the first quarter both teams were tied at 14, and headed into the second quarter Bluejays knew what they had to do. The Bluejays then added 13 points to their previous 14 then headed into the half 27-18.

Headed back in from halftime, Pierce added six more points while the Indians were catching up getting eight points tallied to the scoreboard. The third quarter ended with a score of 33-26. Ponca ended the night with a loss, while the Bluejays continued their streak with the 42-37 win.

“Ponca is a good team. They did a great job pressuring the ball, so we had to make sure that we passed well and took care of the ball. Anytime we beat a team in our conference it is a good win,” Endorf said.

Girls Basketball Defeats Boone Central
By Lauren Delka

In their first Mid-State conference matchup and first home game on Friday, December 12th, the Pierce High basketball team claimed a win against Boone Central 47-37.

In the first quarter, the Bluejays scored 10 points to the Cardinals' five.

The second quarter was more of a struggle for the Bluejays as they were only able to add 10 points to the score compared to Boone Central’s 12.

“I thought our defense was really good. We did a great job holding them, and everyone played really good defense. We also just played well together,” freshman Lydia Cone said.

The girls still managed to come back in the third and fourth quarters, scoring 13 and 14 against Boone’s seven and 13.

Abigail Cone managed to score the most points of the game with 19, as well as five defensive rebounds and seven offensive rebounds.

“Boone Central was a good game for us as a team because it was our first real game. I thought we stuck to the game plan well, and we all defended well,” A. Cone remarks.

“I thought before Boone Central, we had a great week of practice. We did a good job walking onto the scout. I thought we did a great job defending their actions and rebounded extremely well. Kudos to our girls for working hard in practice and getting that done,” coach Darin Suckstorf states.

The girls and the coach were proud of their defensive plays, and they should be with 13 offensive rebounds and 20 defensive rebounds.

The girls are looking forward to having a good season this year, and they should be by seeing how well they have played so far.
