Two New Drum Majors Take the Stand
by Payton Ebmeier
After the graduation of the last drum major, Mya Johnson, the Pierce marching band faces major changes within the leadership department. New drum majors include senior and former saxophone player Aubrie Zimmerman, as well as junior and former bass drum player Jordyn Schwede.
Band director Michael Sindt was asked how he saw this season playing out, and he noted the improvements the drum majors have already made since their first practice during band camp on July 27, remarking, “Both of them seem to get along with everybody, which is an important thing.”
Both drum majors are honored to have the opportunity to represent Pierce and the band during competitions.
“I am honored to have gotten the opportunity! Throughout the years, I have gotten to know so many people, which helped lead me to the position,” Zimmerman says when asked how it felt to finally claim the role of drum major after almost four and a half years in the band.
The Pierce marching band will continue to work on their show “Soundtrack to a Life,” consisting of “Bridge over Troubled Water” and “You Can Call Me Al,” named Paul Simon Opener, “Your Song” by Elton John, and “My Life/Only the Good Die Young” by Billy Joel.
Support the band by watching their first show at noon on September 30.
