Juniors Travel to Norfolk Area College Fair

Pens and pencils in hand and questions ready, the junior class headed down to Northeast Community College on September 24, which helped students explore more than 60 colleges and career opportunities at the Norfolk Area College Fair.
For some juniors, the fair was a chance to narrow down college choices. Avery Wragge attended the fair, hoping to find a college that fits her interests and future plans.
“I was hoping to learn more about what type of colleges would be best for me and what fits my standards,” Wragge said. “I would like to go to something with veterinary school, and I was thinking about going to UNL because it has a lot of things I'm interested in there.”
The fair gave students lots of opportunities to look beyond colleges close to home. Colleges from other states such as South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, and even farther away attended the fair, along with representatives from the Navy, Air Force, and Army.
“It’s important that they are able to see a lots of options. Students can engage with admissions reps from varying colleges and learn about opportunities that aren’t local,” guidance counselor at Pierce High School Danielle Goetsch said.
As students begin thinking about their life after high school, the fair encourages students to consider new possibilities they have not thought of before.
“Don't limit your opportunities to limit the options that you're looking at; look at opportunities that maybe never came across your mind in the past,” Goetsch said.
For every student, it is different on how their path lays out, but sometimes it is okay to not know what the future holds.
“I can feel overwhelmed at times, but it's best to start figuring these things out early so that you aren't as stressed and overwhelmed during the end of your high school days,” Wragge said.
