Selected Juniors Take on Another Test
By Raleigh Pfeiffer
The top 15 of the junior class woke up ready for yet another test, the PSAT, or Preliminary SAT, on Tuesday, October 13, beginning at 8 in the morning.
“I actually felt pretty good about it. I don’t think that I scored in the 95th percentile, but for me I did pretty well,” Kate Anderson states.
The PSAT is an exam to prepare students for the SAT test. The test includes reading, writing, and math modules similar to the SAT. It lasts about two hours digitally. The test challenges students in many ways, as some sections are harder than others.
“Math was the hardest section,” both Anderson and classmate Darcy Watts state.
High scorers are given high merit scholarship opportunities. This test also provides students with better study habits and practice with test questions that mirror the SAT.
“It's a good opportunity to take another test and get more practice for standardized tests,” Watts states.
Only certain students are chosen based on their grade point average. These students, if they choose to complete the test, are the top 15 students of the class. This year, Anderson, Natalie Endorf, Kaelyn Halsey, Hilkemann, Jada Johnson, Konnar Jones, Meredith Krienert, Paisley Sanders, Jordan Schwede, Taylor Sonnenfelt, Lillian Stern, Elliot Vanness, Darcy Watts, Avery Wragge, and Kolton Wragge completed the test.
“The English part was where I did best,” Watts states.
Each module of the test is scored 160-760 per module, while the total composite score ranges from 320 to 1520. Students will be given their results via email.
Overall, the PSAT is an honor to take and provides students with many opportunities.
