Six Wrestlers Take a Spot at State

The 10 wrestlers who made it through sub-districts traveled to Schuyler to compete in district competition on Saturday, February 13. Six of the 10 wrestlers achieved a spot at state wrestling. The six that moved on to state wrestling were Brock Bolling, Blake Bolling, Jayden Coulter, Ashton Schweitzer, Michael Kruntorad, and Zander Schweitzer.
Junior state qualifier, Michael Kruntorad, stated, “I think it’s a fun and cool experience to be a part of. My goal this year is to outdo my last year’s experience.”
Wrestling at 113, Ethan Dohmen lost by fall to Hunter Anderson of Hastings and Trey Svatora of Schuyler.
Isaiah Adams (120) lost by fall to both Braiden Kort of Adams Central and Markus Miller of Hastings.
In the 126 weight class, Br. Bolling placed 1st in his bracket when he won by fall over Aidan Clarys of Elkhorn North, won by a 6-2 decision over Garrett Rine of Waverly, and then won by major decision 10-0 over Braxton Peacher of Bennington.
At 132 Bl. Bolling won by fall over Jesse Rodriguez of Nebraska City, but then he lost by decision 9-2 to AJ Parrish of Bennington. Bl. Bolling then fought back and won by a 9-1 major decision over Drake Anderson of Hastings and then won by a 7-4 decision over Devon Ackles of Adams Central.
Wrestling at 138, Coulter pinned Kemper Reed of Waverly in :47 and won by a 4-2 decision over Blake Kile of Hastings, but then lost to Logan Jaixen of Columbus Lakeview by decision 8-6.
Moving to weight 152, A. Schweitzer won by decision 8-2 over Lee Hobbs of Nebraska City and also won by a 6-0 decision over Diego Maganda of Schuyler. He then lost by sudden victory to Jett Samuelson of Hastings.
Kruntorad, wrestling at 160, pinned Eddie Johnson of Waverly in :20 and then pinned Riley Eickmeier of Columbus Scotus in :22. In his final match, Kruntorad won by a 14-8 decision over Caleb Kriens of South Sioux City.
At 170, Z. Schweitzer pinned Quinn Mulcahy of Omaha Roncalli Catholic and Ben Kamrath of Columbus Scotus, but then lost his last match to Evan Canoyeer of Waverly by major decision 17-4.
Wrestling at 182, Colton Fritz lost by a 10-4 decision to Nicholas Limon of South Sioux City, but then pinned Connor Wademan. Fritz then lost by fall to Landon Ternus of Columbus Lakeview.
At 220, Nick Erickson lost by major decision 13-1 to Nate Leininger of Waverly, but then Erickson pinned Jesse VanderWoude of South Sioux City. He then lost by fall to Aiden Deveny of Bennington.
Head Coach Tyler Legate stated, “I am excited to see them compete on the biggest stage. I expect good things to happen to us in Omaha this year. Hopefully we can finish this year with a bang.”
The wrestlers will next take the mat at state wrestling starting on Friday, February 19, and will continue until Saturday, February 20, at the CHI Center in Omaha.
