Pierce Put their Brains to the Test
By Ryder Theisen
Pierce took 30 students to Northeast Community College’s annual scholastic competition against 43 other area schools on Wednesday, April 1, and earned first place as a team in the Class C division.
This competition challenges students' test-taking skills across a wide variety of subjects, from math and science to business and industrial technology. Next, the tests are graded, and the results are announced. The college also provided some card games, cornhole, and even a karaoke competition to energize students in between tests.
To start off strong, Carl Vogt in physics, Alyssa Kuper in medical terminology, and Cooper Hansen in algebra I all placed first in their respective categories.
“I am proud of the team for getting first place along with all of those who placed. We would not have been able to do this without the excellent teachers and faculty in our school,” sophomore Meredith Krienert states.
As for the rest of the results, Christian Nordby got second place in vocabulary. In the trigonometry test, Brandon Thomsen placed second, and Elliot Vanness scored second place in algebra II. In the anatomy and physiology test, Jada Brummels scored second place. Krienert was able to take second place in the biology test.
“I feel like the scholastic contest is a good testament to the overall teachers and academic abilities at Pierce High School,” remarks sponsor of the academic team, Crys Bauermeister. “I'm always proud of the way Pierce High School students can showcase their knowledge at the Northeast test. I am also proud of how they handled themselves throughout the day, when not testing as well.”
With all the combined points, Pierce was able to snag first place in the contest, edging out Elkhorn Valley.
