Bluejays Soar Above Eagles in Thrilling Victory
By Brayden Suckstorf
The Bluejays delivered an impressive performance against the Lutheran Northeast Eagles on January 3, dominating on their home court.
“I felt great about our overall performance. It was the first time all year that we pressed and ran our half court zone defense, the girls did a great job of executing it with limited time working on it. It was good to see us get out and score in transition,” head coach Darin Suckstorf stated.
The Bluejays started off strong in the first quarter with a score of 22-5 going into the second quarter.
The second quarter was the same story with the Bluejays shutting down the Eagles, only letting them score one point to Pierce’s 16.
The Bluejays kept pacing after halftime, making the score of the second half 11-3.
To finish it off in the fourth quarter, the Bluejays scored four points and the Eagles scored three making the final score an impressive 53-12.
The Bluejays showed off their athleticism with 20 steals, 18 deflections, and 53 points.
Skylar Scholting led the team with 17 points and seven steals, not far behind her was Abigail Cone with 11 points and five steals. Emily Endorf put up eight points and had three steals. Hadley Wragge helped the Bluejays with five points. Aubrey Hanson, Aislyn Moeller, and Nora Herian each put up two points each.
“We went out to the game ready to focus on sharpening up our zone defense, and I think we definitely did that throughout the game,” Aubrey Hanson stated.
The Bluejays are hoping to keep the momentum going on Thursday when they host David City Aquinas.
