Pierce Speech Competes with Multiple Schools in Wayne

The Pierce High speech team flocked to the Wayne High/Wayne State Classic speech meet on Saturday, February 8, and placed fifth with 122 team points.
At this meet, all competitors competed at the varsity level in three rounds, but as a result, three categories of awards were given.
The top six places were the champs finals, and Mya Johnson was third in program of oral interpretation (POI).
Honors finals followed the champs finals, and Pierce had a number of competitors place.
Claiming first in extemporaneous speaking was Josie Painter. She also finished fifth in persuasive speaking
Payton Ebmeier earned second in persuasive speaking.
Nickolas Efta placed third in POI.
“I believe we did well as a team and are improving each week,” Efta, a senior on the speech team, says.
In informative speaking, Alexis Sporleder secured fourth.
Johnson medaled again, placing fourth in oral interpretation of serious prose.
Also earning a second medal was Efta and partner Spencer Sindt, who placed sixth in duet acting.
“We are always improving, we have a few things to work on before the end of the year, but I think both personally and as a team I believe we all performed well,” Spencer Sindt, a sophomore on the speech team, states.
Finally, the last set of awards were the merit finals.
Taking top honors in merit finals were Ann Reeker and Sindt serious and humorous prose, respectively.
Aubrie Zimmerman placed second in persuasive speaking, and Maya Johnson took second in informative speaking.
Placing third in merit finals were Sporleder in extemporaneous speaking, Lauren Delka in entertainment speaking, and Lillian Blank in poetry.
Addison Frye & Delka placed fifth in duet acting, while Uther Nogueira took fifth in entertainment speaking.
Brayden Lambrecht and Camassia White secured sixth in persuasive and entertainment speaking, respectively.
The speech team competes in David City on Saturday, February 15.
