Bluejays Fall to Warriors
By Peyton Brunckhorst

The girls basketball team took a hard loss in the semifinals of the Mid-State conference to the Crofton Warriors on Thursday, February 5.

“I thought we fought hard and didn’t give up and we also didn’t let their press bother us and we were able to execute multiple defenses,” Nora Herian, a sophomore post player, stated.

Starting the game, in the first quarter, Abigail Cone, Skylar Scholting, and Herian all scored two points to end the first, 11-6.

Dribbling on to the second quarter, Hadley Wragge put up one point, Herian had one point, S. Scholting made two points, and Cone added four points, to end the first half trailing the Wariors, 20-14.

Starting the second half, Wragge scored two points, S. Scholting scored five points, and scoring the most in the third quarter was Haley Scholting with six points, but still not enough to catch up to the Warriors, as they still lead 30-27.

Tying up the game, in the fourth quarter, Cone led with four points, H. Scholting with three, and S. Scholting with one, but it was not enough to take the lead as the Bluejays ended the game behind, 44-35.

The Bluejays play next on Thursday, February 13, at Guardian Angels Central Catholic in their final regular season game.

By Rylee Altwine

The girls basketball team traveled to Crofton on Monday, February 3 to compete in the first round of the Mid-State conference tournament. Playing the girls first was the O’Neill Eagles, and overpowering the Eagles, the Pierce girls won by eight points.

Starting off slow in the first quarter, the Jays put up eight points compared to the 12 points the Eagles scored.

Coming back for redemption in the second quarter, the Jays scored 14 points while only allowing O’Neill to put up six points, leading 22-18.

Taking the court after halftime, Pierce kept up with the Eagles both scoring 16 points in the third quarter.

Closing the game out, the Bluejays took over the Eagles, outscoring them 16-13. The Bluejays defeated the Eagles 55-47 allowing Pierce to advance onto the next round of the Mid-State tournament.

Leading the team in points was senior Skylar Scholting with a total of 21 points. In second for most points, Haley Scholting put up 13 points while junior Abigail Cone scored 12. Senior Hadley Wragge scored five points and not far behind Wragge was Nora Herian and Emily Endorf with two points each.

“We played good, we started out okay, but throughout the game, we just kept playing faster and making good decisions with the ball,” H. Scholting states.
