Bluejay Basketball Team has their Downfall Against Arlington

Pierce girls basketball team soared to Arlington for the sub district final game on February 20, and the Bluejays put up a fight against the Eagles, but lost with a score of 62-49.
In the first period of the game, Pierce scored 10 points, and Arlington scored 16.
In the second quarter, Pierce and Arlington both scored 11 points, making the score going into halftime 27-21 in favor of the Eagles.
During the third period of the game, Pierce scored 11 points, but allowed Arlington to score 18, pushing the Arlington lead to 45-32.
In the fourth period, Pierce and Arlington both scored 17 points, but Arlington won the game 62-49.
“In our game on Thursday, although we didn't get the exact outcome we wanted, I still thought we fought hard and played well as a team, we just came up short of a win,” Haley Scholting, a sophomore, says.
Although Pierce lost the game, due the the NSAA wildcard system, the next six teams after the sub district winners are eligible for the district finals. Pierce had 43.154 points, placing the team 15th in class C1. Pierce will travel to Milford to play the Eagles at 6:30 on Friday, February 28.
Throughout the game, Skylar Scholting led the team with 25 points, H. Scholting scored nine, Hadley Wragge added eight, Abigail Cone contributed five, and Nora Herian scored two points.
“We are definitely looking to improve on our defense and executing plays down the stretch before the district final,” S. Scholting, a senior, says.
The Bluejays Defeat the Eagles in the First Round of Subdistricts

The Pierce High girls basketball team traveled to Arlington to face O’Neill for the first round of subdistricts on Tuesday, February 18 and won by a score of 59-39.
“I felt like we did a great job of playing like a team, especially on defense. We knew the scouting report very well, which helped us in stopping their defense,” point guard Skylar Scholting said.
The Bluejays started the game strong, leading the Eagles 12-4, with S. Scholting leading the team with eight points. Emily Endorf and Abigail Cone each added two points.
Shooting their way through the first half, the Bluejays maintained their lead, finishing the half with a score of 20-14. Endorf, Mya Froehlich, Haley Scholting, and S. Scholting each scored two points during the second.
Coming out hot after halftime, the Bluejays extended their lead to 46-23. Scoring in the third were Endorf and Grace Suckstorf each with six points each; Hadley Wragge, H. Scholting, and Nora Herian contributed four points each; and S. Scholting also added two points to the total.
Closing out the game on a high note, the Bluejays wrapped up the game with a 20-point lead ending the game with a score of 59-39. S. Scholting led the team during this quarter with six points while Cone contributed four points, Wragge with two, and H. Scholting with one.
The Bluejays will take the court on Friday, February 28, for the district final versus Milford at 6:30 p.m.
