O’Neill Hosts Thrilling Entrepreneur Competition

By Cameron Kuehler

Pierce High School recently went to a much-anticipated Entrepreneur Shop competition, a thrilling event where students showcased their creativity, business ideas, and entrepreneurial spirit.

With a mix of determination and innovative thinking, students participated in this unique competition to see who could pitch the most successful business plan. The winners of the competition were Cooper Wachholtz, Brecken Schwartz and Payton Cederburg, who took home third place with PCB Exterior Design, a power washing business. The group took home $750. Aylla Weeder, with a Aylla’s Boutique and Restorations, earned $500 for her fourth place finish. The event not only highlighted their hard work but also gave these young entrepreneurs a valuable opportunity to grow and learn from the experience.

The competitors’ ideas were born from a variety of inspirations. For many, their business ideas were driven by personal hobbies and interests, reflecting how passion can often lead to successful ventures. Others, like Weeder, had prior business experience that helped refine their approach and make strategic decisions.

Like any real-world business venture, the competitors faced several challenges throughout the competition. For many, the hardest part was facing the judges, who, while constructive in their feedback, were also intimidating.

"The judges were pretty scary at first, but once I got into my pitch, I felt more confident," Brenden Bolling, another entrepreneur who competed, said.

Despite the hurdles they faced, participants walked away with lessons learned and ideas for improvement. If given another chance, several competitors noted changes they’d make to their business plans and presentations.

“Business cards would have helped a lot in making our presentation feel more professional,” Alex Thramer, the teacher of the entrepreneurship class, said.

The event was a huge success, offering students the chance to explore their business potential while learning essential skills that will serve them in the future. The feedback they received, combined with their reflections on their challenges and successes, will no doubt contribute to their growth as future entrepreneurs.
