Juniors and Seniors Danced Their Way Down the Red Carpet at Prom

By Peyton Brunckhorst

On the night of Friday, March 21, the juniors and seniors attended their prom. The junior class officers chose the theme “red carpet” which included decorations such as a red carpet in the entryway, a VIP photo backdrop with a balloon arc, and many table centerpieces that included miniature Oscar statue.

Juniors needed to sign up for either setup or take down decorations and if they did not attend, they were to pay a fine of $25. Setup was on Thursday until about 6 p.m. and take-down was on Saturday at 1.

Prom set-up went great. Thanks to everyone who helped. Setting up was quick and efficient and ended up looking wonderful. It was a lot of fun!” Mya Johnson, junior class president, says.

The night consisted of entertainment in the form of a Kahoot provided by the sophomore servers, a photo booth provided by Reflections Portraits, a meal provided by Taylor’s Catering, the dance, and then post prom, which was held at the YMCA in Norfolk and sponsored by the parents.

Juniors chose a meal of smothered chicken or cod, a salad, cheesy potatoes and a dinner roll. Following the meal, a class picture of each class was taken prior to the dance, which ran from 8-11.

Post prom followed the dance and consisted of many games, food, and prizes. At the beginning of post prom, students signed in, picked a number for prizes, and then could venture to whatever game they wanted. A few of the games offered were football, volleyball, basketball, pickleball, gaga ball, and blindfolded musical chairs. After a while of playing games, students could go eat a variety of foods like Subway sandwiches, Casey’s pizza, Indian tacos, walking tacos, and many desserts and drinks. Prizes were at the end of the night and there were a plethora of prizes like mini refrigerators, vanity mirrors, ice makers, coffee machines, and many other items. Students got prizes by getting their number called and then had 30 seconds to go find whatever prize they wanted. Post prom ended at 2:30 in the morning and students checked out and went home.
