Pierce Smashes their Competition at Plainview Track Meet

By Parker Gaes

Pierce Bluejays get invited by the Plainview Pirates at their own house to compete in a very competitive meet where teams faced off to see who could take home the champions plaque.

In addition to the host school, Plainview, the Jays faced Ainsworth, Creighton, Chambers-Wheeler Central, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Lutheran High Northeast, Norfolk Catholic, Osmond, Ponca, Randolph, Santee, St. Mary’s, Stanton and finally Wausa.

All of the teams brought their toughest competition to the meet, but the Jays still came up on top.

“I thought the meet went well on the boys and girls side, especially with the way the weather was. I think a lot of us were expecting the meet to get canceled considering how much rain there was,” sophomore runner Kendall Shada said. “Individually I did not have a very good meet, and if I wanna get the school record in the 2-mile then I'm gonna have to pick it up in practice."

The weather at the meet was terrible and everyone was freezing their bottoms off, because it was about 39 degrees and raining.

However, despite the weather, Pierce still did have a great meet.

Starting with field events, Ryder Theisen claimed top honors in triple jump, going 41-09.5. Teammate Gavin Lubischer also medaled, taking the fourth place spot with a jump of 37-08.5.

In long jump, Theisen claimed second and Lubischer got third place with jumps of 19-07.75 and 19-05.5, respectively.

Parker Gaes got fifth place at high jump, going 5-06.

In discus, Jax Bauer, Xavier Miller, and Keaton Frazier all placed. Bauer got third place with a throw of 121-09, Miller finished fourth throwing 121-03, and Fraizer was sixth with a throw of 115-06.

“The track meet on Friday was definitely not the best one I have had. I knew coming into the track meet that the conditions were not going to be very good by any means. However, I was going to do the best that I could considering the conditions. Although I am not thrilled with how I did, I have to remind myself that there isn’t much I could have done about it and that I have future goals to work hard for and do the best I can,” senior Brayden Schwartz said.

In the running events, Brenden Bolling finished in first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:05.42, as well as  first place in the 1600-meter race with a time of 4:49.00. Shada also medaled in the 1600, taking fourth with a time of 5:03.00.

Shada got fourth place in the 3200-meter race, running it in 10:49.61.

Theisen again earned first in the 300-meter hurdles, ending with a time of 44.90 while Gaes got third with a time of 45.69.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Theisen was second, running a 16.83.

Gavin Lubischer got fifth place in the 100-meter dash with a 12.25 finish.

In the 400-meter dash, Hayden Bauer got third place, and Konnar Jones got fifth place with times of 55.10 and 56.61.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the boys finished in third place, and the team consisted of Sean Monroe, Aiden Pospisil, Jones, and Lubischer.

The 4x800-meter relay ended in second place and the runners were H. Bauer, Jones, Frazier, and Bolling.

The Pierce Bluejays will be flying to Wisner for the Lions Club track meet happening on Saturday, April 12.
