Choir Students Sing at WSC

By Ava Bargstadt

Pierce sent two students, Addison Frye and Spencer Sindt, to attend Wayne State College Honor Choir on February 6.

The honor choir is an audition event. Students who made the choir came from four different states. About 105 students made the mixed choir which is the choir Sindt and Frye were in. They also offered a treble choir which is even bigger.

The day went very smoothly. It is the first time Pierce has had anyone at this event since Amy Barnhill, the director, has been teaching.

“Each choir has four songs with the fourth song being combined with the treble choir. The mixed choir sang ‘Where Is Love’ from the broadway show Oliver, ‘With Voice of Singing, Hava Nagila,’ and the combined song, ‘Over in the Gloryland.’ And as an added treat Spencer and Mr. Sindt played in the Dixieland band for the last song,” Barnhill says.

“I thought I did super well, although my voice was a little tired from practicing my speech events and choir music. I learned the music fast and had a lot of the music memorized by the end of the day,” says choir student Addison.

Overall the honor choir was a success.

“It was an amazing experience for me, for sure. There were so many people to talk to and become friends with, the music was super fun to sing and challenging, and the directors I got to work with were so kind and knowledgeable about their craft,” Frye says.
