Students Participate in Mid-State Conference Band Event

By Charlotte Enk

The Pierce Band met on Monday, March 9, in the music building at Wayne State College and 22 Pierce band students were there to participate in one of two bands; each band had 60-70 people.

“The day went very well. It culminated with a public concert that the students put together in one day,” Michael Sindt, band director, stated. “The unique thing about Mid-State conference band is that students who are usually competing against each other must collaborate to make a musical product at the end of the day.”

Each band was led by a guest conductor, and each school in the conference sent about 1/3 of its band to participate.

“The band in Pierce just feels like a big family, and the concert was the peak of the event. It was tough to learn in one day though,” senior trumpet player Tyler Schulz said.

I had a great time! I met a lot of new people and learned a lot of new things regarding band!” junior saxophone player Aubree Zimmerman said.

Meeting new students from other bands is always fun, and there is always improvement when students have the opportunity to learn more. Or as Payton Ebmeier states “Conference band was super fun this year. It is a place to meet new people, learn music, and develop ourselves as musicians.”

The Pierce band did great and had a lot of fun with the overall three songs.
