People Who Shape Pierce: Austin Kroupa

By Elizabeth Furstenau

The town of Pierce is well-rounded with a respectful community, but who are the people who help make it what it is? Who are the people who shape Pierce?

Austin Kroupa has been the park superintendent for three years. When he was younger, his grandma would take him to the park. He enjoyed the park as well as the pool. When the opportunity came up to give back to his community, he took it.

His responsibilities include keeping the park clean, looking nice, and being safe. In the summertime, the main responsibility is mowing the grass. He is in charge of ensuring that the pool is doing okay, the shelter house is clean, and any other maintenance in the park.

Before making any improvements, he puts a list together and creates a plan. Once it warms up, he plans to switch out the memorial tree plaques with new ones and put them on the trees. He would like to get the cannon painted and possibly add new concrete to the bottom.

He is proud of all of the new additions they have made to the park, such as the pool slide. He also loves the new dock that was donated. Also, the columns they added where the old bridge was is another accomplishment he is proud of.

Kroupa tries to keep the park natural while also keeping it enjoyable for the community. He pays close attention to the color tones of the park.

“The colors of the flowers and trees can either make or break it,” Kroupa claimed. “It will either feel warm or cold and dark.”

He also tries to stick with what works for the park and improve it so the outcome is enjoyable.

The donations that the community gives to the park help to make it a better space for the community members to enjoy. His favorite part about being the superintendent is seeing people come out and just enjoy the area. Whether it be a wedding, a pool party, or even a walk, it is his favorite.

“It gives them a place to come together and enjoy and watch your kids grow up,” Kroupa stated.

The town appreciates all that Austin Kroupa has done for the park and the community.
