By Brayden Wolken
The varsity boys golf team traveled to Battle Creek for the golf invitational, where they tied Neligh-Oakdale for fifth place, beating Hartington-Newcastle, Howells-Dodge, Wisner-Pilger, and West Holt. The boys had two varsity players in the top 30 golfers at this meet.
"For me, I feel like the meet went fairly well. I struggled a bit on the front nine, but I finally got it figured out on the back nine,” senior golfer Tyler Schulz said.
Leading the way for the Bluejays was Brody Scholting, who shot an 84. Schulz followed close behind Scholting, who shot an 85. Noah Fuerhoff-Gubbels tied with Schulz, also getting an 85. Brock Collison followed after, with a score of 95. Finishing it up was Cameron Kuehler, who shot a 98 to finish out for the team scores.
“Well this definitely was not my best golfing I'd say, but if I can start hitting the shots I know I can, I think I could do pretty well at districts,” Kuehler said.
Pierce also brought three JV golfers in Logan Brummels, Wynn Pfeil, and Brayden Lambrecht. Brummels shot a score of 100, Pfeil shot a 123, and Lambrecht finished with a 113.
The team will look to do well in their next meet at Fairplay Golf Course in Norfolk to compete for a shot at state at districts.

Up next is district golf at Fair Play golf course on May 18.
Pierce Hosts Golf Invite at Plainview
By Haley Scholting
The Pierce golf meet this year was held at Plainview due to the drier conditions at the Pierce golf course, and the meet took place on Saturday, May 2, and the invite consisted of 12 varsity teams and two JV teams.
Hartington Cedar Catholic won the meet with a score of 319, and Elkhorn Valley took second with 338. The Pierce boys, despite a good effort, placed ninth out of 14 teams that competed. Altogether, the boys had a final score of 361.
The top score and highest placer for Pierce was senior Tyler Schulz, who shot an 86. The next highest score was freshman Brody Scholting with an 89–this is two off from his best score, which was an 87. Noah Fuerhoff-Gubbels (11) and Brock Collison (12) had the same score of 93. Lastly, senior Cameron Kuehler golfed a 95.
“I feel the meet went ok, but I definitely have a lot of room for improvement. I feel that I will be able to do well at the conference due to my swing being more consistent,” Fuerhoff-Gubbels said.
“I feel like the season is going well,” Scholting says. “There are plenty of learning opportunities that will help me in the future, and the memories we make during practice and after meets are some things I really enjoy about golf.”
As the season progresses, Pierce will compete in the conference tournament at Wayne on May 5. Following that, they will travel to Battle Creek on Thursday, May 7, and before they head into districts, they will compete in Randolph on May 11.

“This season, I’ve got a lot of learning, and I’m hoping that these are usable and that these will help me be a better golfer in the future,” freshman Brody Scholting states.
Senior Tyler Schulz swung the best score with a total of 85, followed by fellow senior Brock Collison with an 89. Junior Noah Fuerhoff-Gubbels followed not too far behind, shooting a 95.
