New Students at PHS

Pierce’s Netherlands Newcomer: Gijs Blanken
by Jada Brummels

This year, Pierce High has the privilege of hosting foreign exchange student Gijs Blanken. Blanken is originally from Bussum, Netherlands, where he attended Comenius College. He lives there with his parents, Berend and Wilmy Blanken, as well as his younger sister, Lotte.

Back home, some of his favorite pastimes include fishing and working on engines.

He decided to be a part of the exchange program after he heard about it from a friend, and says that he is very excited to experience America and try new things.

Here at Pierce, he is a senior who lives with his host family, Beau and Traci Collison. He is involved in football this year and plans to join wrestling this winter season as well. So far, his favorite class is strength and fitness, and his favorite things about Pierce are the friendly people, easy classes, and his favorite school lunch: mini pizza. He is most excited for football games and school dances since it is something he has never experienced before.

Please wish Blanken an incredible year at Pierce!

Pierce High's New Student, Sadie Hamilton
By Brynn Schwartz

Pierce High would like to welcome a new student, Sadie Hamilton. Before coming to Pierce High School, Hamilton attended Pierce Elementary School for three years before transferring to Zion Lutheran.

One of Hamilton's favorite things about Pierce High so far has been the chance to meet new people and have new teachers.

“What I like most about Pierce High is getting to know new people and having all new teachers,” Hamilton said.

So far, Hamilton’s favorite class is Intro to FCS because of the hands-on activities.

“I love all of the hands-on stuff in her class,” Hamilton said.

Outside of school, Hamilton enjoys art, especially painting, as well as listening to music and watching movies. She also enjoys cooking a variety of foods and desserts in her free time.

Hamilton comes from a loving family of five. Her parents are Lacey and Brandon Hamilton. Her older and younger sisters, include Maelee, in 11th grade, and her younger sister, Sawyer, in sixth grade.

As the school year goes on, Hamilton is most excited about what is ahead.

“I am most looking forward to all the friends I am going to make and all the dances I can go to this year,” Hamilton said.

Please give a warm welcome to Hamilton.
