Student Section Dress-Ups
By Eleanor Bauermeister
Students cheering and dressing up in crazy outfits are one of the best parts of coming to any high school sporting event. Everyone comes together for one common goal: to be as distracting as possible to the other team. This year, student dress-ups have really started to pick back up from past years.
The Pierce High Student Council has started a committee that is specifically for the student section and dress-ups. The committee consists of sophomores Callan Vogeler and Eleanor Bauermeister, juniors Kate Anderson, Jada Johnson, and Elliot Vanness, and a senior as well as committee chair, Adrienne Riggert.
While some students love to dress up and cheer in the student section, other students do not feel the same. When asked, some students said that they do not like to dress up and cheer because it would be embarrassing to be the only one doing it. However, if more people would dress up, then they would as well. Another student said that they do not like to dress up and cheer because it is not “nonchalant,” which means acting as if a person is cool and does not care.
“I enjoy it because obviously it’s a good way to show school spirit, and I think it makes high school a lot more fun. Like if you are not participating in as many activities, you’re not going to have as many memories,” senior Jada Brummels said when asked why she likes to dress up and cheer in the student section.
Not only does participating in the student section make things more fun, but it also shows the people who are playing the sports that their classmates care to support them and cheer them on.
“Well, just dress code in general, but as long as they know it is a school event, I think it will be fine,” teacher and cheer sponsor Diana Kuehler said when asked if she thinks that any problems will arise from these dress-up themes.
So whether students already dress up and participate or they do not, encourage them to find out the upcoming dress-up theme and go support their classmates with as much school spirit as possible.
