Where Do I Belong?

It is the time of year when the seniors and juniors are looking for their new home. Whether it is a two-year college or a four-year university, students want a clear idea of where they will spend the next few years of their lives.
A college visit is as simple as it sounds; it is when a student visits a college of interest to learn more about it. The process is simple.
First, you go to the college’s website and look at possible dates. You can pick whether you are in a group visit or a single-student visit; either way with a tour guide who attends that college. You then pick a specific date and time. After selecting a date, you will talk with the school counselor, Danielle Goetsch or her assistant Rachel Abler, about getting a prearranged sheet for your classes. You will be excused from school that day.
Seniors are allowed three visits and juniors are allowed two visits for the year. Visits can range from a couple of hours to a whole day. Some visits for a college sport can be over a weekend.
“Yes, right away, I felt like CCC was the perfect place for me. When I went on the visit, I remember leaving feeling like the campus was the perfect size and atmosphere for my liking,” senior Haley Scholting explains about finding her new place at Columbus Community College her junior year of high school. She recommends going on visits because it allows her to feel more confident about her future
“Knowing I have a plan for where I am going and majoring in helps me feel like I am making steps in the right direction,” Scholting says.
College visits allow a student to determine if a college is the right fit for them. They are given a tour of the campus and shown the lifestyle of the students there. You will talk with an advisor at the college to dive deeper into the educational part of college. Students might receive pamphlets and souvenirs to help persuade them to pick that college.
“I like it when you talk one-on-one with the professors since they know a lot and you can see how the classes are taught,” senior Isabelle Streff remarks about her favorite part of going on college visits. If she had any advice for students nervous about attending these visits, she says, “Take someone who has been on a college visit before so they can ease you into it.”
For students who are interested in furthering their education, college visits are a great way to find your new home.
