Leading, Learning, and Connecting at the FCCLA Fall Conference

Pierce FCCLA led and took action at Wayne State College for an FCCLA Fall Conference where they gained leadership skills, connected with other FCCLA members, and prepared for the upcoming FCCLA year.
This year, the conference featured two tracks for attendees: the Distinguished Leader Track and Emerging Leaders Track. The Distinguished Leader Track is for chapter officers to strengthen their leadership skills and get engaged with FCCLA. The Emerging Leaders Track is for new members to learn more about FCCLA and its opportunities.
The conference brought together FCCLA members from all other districts across northeast Nebraska. The goal was to recruit, retain, educate and inspire members to take advantage of what FCCLA has to offer.
“Sometimes it works better if kids learn from kids,” Angie Brodersen, FCCLA sponsor, said. The conference also gave opportunities for students to meet FCCLA members from other schools and learn from one another.
Leadership development was another focus of the conference.
“Leadership development is important if you start to gain those skills early on, you can prepare them for future careers and communities,” Brodersen said.
For the FCCLA officers, the conference also provided an opportunity to prepare for the responsibilities of leading their chapters throughout the school year.
“I learned to guide people in the right direction. As I know more about STAR projects, I'm able to inform others on theirs,” Kate Anderson, FCCLA secretary said.
With new leadership skills, connections and ideas from the conference, FCCLA members are now looking forward to putting their new learning skills into action throughout the upcoming year.
